Even if you’re not stuck at home, finding the time to declutter is hard. Well, the solution is to start by decluttering those things you can throw out now! Each of these items can all be decluttered without worrying about finding the time to donate or sell them because they all belong in the trash.
While, yes I usually recommend donating the stuff you’re decluttering, these items are really not worth donating. Tossing unnecessary items will allow you to better organize the things that you do need and want. Plus it’s a great way to jump-start your decluttering efforts!
Now on to the list!
1. Junk mail and old papers – if they contain sensitive information shred them first, otherwise toss them all in the recycle bin.
2. Photographs that are blurry, bad, or duplicates.
3. Old pet supplies like brushes, collars, and feeding dishes.
4. Old nail polish – You know the ones that have gotten thick and gooey.
5. Cosmetic bags that are stained and dirty.
6. Old make-up or make-up you don’t use or like.
7. Expired medication.
8. Clothes that are stained or ripped – you can also turn these into cleaning rags!
9. Old throw pillows.
10. Flat bed pillows.
11. Books with missing pages – toss these into the recycle bin.
12. Puzzles with missing pieces.
13. Expired coupons.
14. Old magazines.
15. Stained or frayed towels – these also make great cleaning rags.
16. Expired food or food you know you’ll never eat.
17. Old textbooks and school papers.
18. Broken toys.
19. Unmatched socks – I promise you’re never going to find the match. Ever.
20. Any earrings that you’ve lost the pair for – actually any broken costume jewelry.
21. Hangers from the dry cleaners.
22. Any knick-knacks that are chipped or broken.
23. All product samples – be honest, you know you’ll never use them!
24. Empty boxes – Why do we hang on to these?
25. Worn out sheets.
26. Fabric scraps.
27. Mix matched craft supplies.
28. Old glasses.
29. Scratched CDs and DVDs.
30. Travel mugs that leak.
31. Hangers from the dry cleaners.
32. Manuals or instructions – You don’t need them, they’re all available online!
33. Take out menus – they’re the same online I promise.
34. Plastic spoons, knives, and forks from take-out restaurants – while you’re at it, toss all those small packets of ketchup!
35. Outdated electronics, things like cassette tapes, gaming items, anything VCR related, or outdated cable cords.
36. Promotional T-shirts and products.
37. Unused Perfumes and colognes.
38. Frayed or old extension cords.
39. Plastic food containers that are stained or have missing lids.
40. Pens and pencils that are dried up or too short to write with.
41. Plug-in air fresheners without a refill.
42. Partially used lotions, face washes, or skincare items you don’t use.
43. Hair Products you don’t use.
44. Mc Donald’s Happy Meal or goodie bag toys.
45. Old shoes.
